Management of manure and racing horse manure

Keeping a horse’s property clean is key to maintaining a healthy and thriving horse. Every day we have to remove waste and bedding from horse property, as they attract flies and insects.

Fresh horse manure fertilizer contains high levels of weed seeds. So, if you only add fresh manure to your soil, your plants will suffer from the presence of such weeds, along with other shortcomings. However, well-decomposed horse manure is an excellent source of organic matter. It can be an ideal soil improver for tree, vegetable, herb and flower gardens, if added in appropriate amounts to the soil.

Horse owners should think of ways in which they can take advantage of their horse’s manure. They can make it compost and use it on their crops, donate it to the local farmers union or sell it to local merchants. Do not underestimate the amount of manure produced by a horse. It is estimated that an 800-pound (364 kg) horse will produce 16,000 pounds of waste. (7300 kg) in one year. To this you must add the base (which must be cleaned almost every day) and various other wastes (food etc.). Therefore, you must first establish a suitable, sustainable and environmentally sound waste management policy.
